Snow sculpture for Perm Snow Festival 2003
Tribute to 9/11

My journey to Russia started back in 1992 here in Seattle. At the Sheraton Hotel there was an event that celebrated the 500th anniversary of the famous voyage of Columbus. There were 300 Russian representatives in the room. I was a volunteer. In the lobby, I answered questions about getting around Seattle, where to eat and what to see. A Russian friend from Seattle, Yelena, introduced me to Mr. Yuri Melentyev, a former Director of Culture. He had his own Cultural Foundation in Moscow at the time and we worked out a plan for an exhibit.

Now after 17 journeys into Russia, I am having my first show in a Russian
Museum. In Perm, this September my show will open on the 22nd. My first show in Moscow happened in 1993 and the doors opened up because of the rich contacts. I have never looked back.

My relationship with Russia is as big as the country. There were some other
exhibits, travels to other cities, hikes in the wilderness, rafting rivers,
banyas, vodka and many new friendships. I helped to found the
Perm International Snow & Ice Sculpture Competition, now in its 11th year.
There were two International Student Exchanges between Perm and Seattle where a dozen young artists visited each others cities for 2 weeks.

Now in conjunction with my Exhibition at the Perm State Art Gallery, I have
organized the first American Organist, Dr. Carole Terry, Professor of Music at the University of Washington, to perform at the New Perm Organ Hall. Her performance will be held September 23rd.

After Graduating from the University of Washington in 1976 with 2 art
degrees, I taught for a while in different schools both public and private.
My time is now spent in my Seattle studio painting.
